Welcome Walsh Families!

At Walsh School, we believe that the love of learning begins here. As the home for the district's Early Childhood, Kindergarten, and First Grade students, we have the unique privilege of guiding children through their most pivotal developmental years.

While we are deeply committed to academic excellence - providing a rigorous focus on literacy, math, and writing - we know that school is about much more than just grades. We strive to nurture the 'whole child' by emphasizing the importance of good character, responsibility, and kindness. Our goal is to build a supportive community where every child feels safe to explore, eager to learn, and proud to be a responsible citizen.

Schedule

Early Childhood/Community Preschool sessions are from 9:15-11:45 am and 1:00-3:30 pm daily. EC/Preschool hours on Wednesdays are as follows: AM: 9:15-11:15 / PM: 12:50-2:50.

Kindergarten and First Grade Student day is 8:50 am-3:30 pm, with a strong variety of instructional techniques and activities to keep your child engaged in learning.

Early Dismissal at 2:50 every Wednesday to allow staff the opportunity for Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Dismissal procedures begin at 2:40pm on Wednesdays.

Attendance is taken at 8:50 am. If you know your child will be absent, call the office no later than 9:00 to report the absence. Please include your child’s first and last name, teacher name, and the reason for their absence when leaving a message on the attendance line.

Buses

Bus Tags - Your child will be issued a bus tag on the first day. Continue to leave it on your child’s backpack; it is our quick check to make sure your child is on the right bus.

Bussing tends to run slower for the first week or two. This happens because we have three separate checks of each bus student to make sure we are getting everyone on the right bus. In addition to that, drivers are diligently checking bus tags and picking up attendance sheets to make sure everyone gets off in the right spot. As the driver gets to know your child and his/her pick up people, times will decrease and your child will get home closer to the specified drop off time. Please be patient especially at the start of the year and sub drivers.

Pick Up/Drop Off

Drop off - morning drop off line is in the North Street Parking Lot. Please follow the road markings and stay in the drop off circle. Stay in your car; do not park and walk to the door. Drop off begins at 8:40 and ends at 8:50. Our staff are there to assist.

Pick up - afternoon dismissal takes place in the front of the building by the main entrance. PM preschool and kindergarten students dismiss out of the main entrance door 1 with their teacher. 1st grade students dismiss out of door 10 with their teacher. You have the option of parking and walking up to your student’s door OR you can stay in your car and enter the car rider line. The car rider line starts by entering the bus ramp off of MacGregor. The first 10 cars will pull up to a numbered cone. The line will continue beyond the cones and cars are then assigned a cone number by a staff member. Staff members assist students to meet you at your assigned cone number. They will help your child enter your vehicle, you do not need to get out. Students should be secured in proper seating when leaving the parking lot.

Please remember, no pets on school grounds.

Parent Info

Security is a high priority in all of our schools. Please bring your driver’s license when you come to the building; you must have it to enter. We will scan your license through the security system for verification against the national sex offender database. Please, never hold the door open for anyone behind you; we ask all visitors to buzz in separately and state the purpose for the visit.

Treat bags with NO food items are allowed to be passed out for birthdays or parties. Invitations may only be passed out if they go to the whole group (boys or girls) or class. Feel free to call the office with questions.

iPads will be issued to students on day 2 or 3. EC/Preschool and Kindergarten students will leave their iPads at school, and first grade students will take theirs home daily. Please make sure to charge the iPad overnight and return it to school each day if yours goes home.
